1) Anlaby Road is the cheapest place to buy a house in Hull.
Official statistics from the Land Registry reveals the 10 cheapest streets to buy a home in Hull, as David Spereall reports. Opens the gallery to see all the locations and find out about our city’s 10 most expensive streets here.
ANLABY Road is the cheapest place to buy property in Hull. Homes in the west Hull street sell for an average of £37,275, almost ten times less than those in the most expensive street, Newland Park.
Estate agent Bob Beercock says the area needs investment to make property more attractive.
“From an evaluation point of view, we tend to measure properties by square feet,” Mr Beercock says. “You’ll find a lot of properties in Anlaby Road are priced at £50 or £60 a square foot. In Newland Park, it’s maybe £200 a square foot. So in real terms it’s more like four times the price.
“In my opinion, there’s a big part of Anlaby Road still in need of either central government or local authority investment to bring it up to scratch.”
A one-bedroom flat in Anlaby Road is currently on sale for £35,000. The top-floor accommodation comprises a lounge, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Secure parking is also available.
Estate agent Hunters, which is marketing the flat, says it is an “ideal investment” in a “popular location, close to the city centre”.
The city’s ten cheapest streets are:
1) Anlaby Road, west Hull
Home to Hull Royal Infirmary and the KC Stadium, this street is also the cheapest place to pick up a property in the city, with homes selling for an average of £37,275.
2) Bishop Lane, city centre
Situated in the heart of the city centre, flats make up most of the property on this street – which is possibly reflected in the low average property price of £38,610.
3) Blaydes Street, north Hull
Just a short distance away from the two most expensive streets in Hull – Newland Park and Scholars Drive, where a home would set you back about £300,000 – property in Blaydes Street (above) sells for an average of £46,167.
4) Rosmead Street, east Hull – £46,500
Lying between New Bridge Road and Southcoates Lane, a home here is a snip at an average of £46,500.
5) Tunis Street, west Hull
With an average price of £46,917, properties in this terraced street near Sculcoates Lane are a bargain.
6) Dorset Street, west Hull
A street of terraced houses lying just off Hessle Road, properties here sell for an average of £47,333.
7) Ladyside Close, North Bransholme
The cheapest estate property to be found in Hull, homes on this street off Lothian Way come in cheap at an average of £48,167.
8) Axdane, Orchard Park
At just under £50,000 – or an average of £49,167, to be precise – Orchard Park is another place to find an inexpensive home.
9) Estcourt Street, east Hull
The next street along from Rosmead Street, and with an average price of just £50,375, it seems this part of east Hull is the place to find a cheap property.
10) Glasgow Street, west Hull
Lying just off the recently regenerated Woodcock Street, properties here sell for an average of £50,667.
